As an avid traveler, Steve Sucher enjoys keeping up with the latest travel trends and events across the globe. Here is a list of the top ten cities he is most interested in visiting in the year 2018.
- Bordeaux, FranceCentre of the wine-growing region in South West France, Bordeaux has seen a lot of changes over the past few years. The city’s port, formally a very rundown area, is now bursting with cafes, museums and gallaries.The city is easily reached by a new high speed train from Paris, which is a journey of just two hours.
- Cape Town, South Africa South Africa’s second largest city, Cape Town offers beaches, wine tours and a whole array of cultural experiences. The Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, the world’s largest museum of contemporary African art, was recently opened in the fall of 2017.
- Los Angeles, USA Los Angeles has started to become more of a cultural destination. It is now quite possible to take a city break there without needing a car, due to an improved subway network.
- Merida, Mexico 2017’s American Capital of Culture, Merida is a colonial city with a rich cultural life. It offers a rich array of activities and there are numerous possibilities for day trips to nearby Mayan ruins.
- Ohrid, MacedoniaOhrid became a UNESCO world heritage site in 1980. Situated on Lake Ohrid and surrounded by mountains, it is an area of astounding natural beauty. The time to visit this city is now whilst it is relatively undiscovered and before development takes over and changes it forever.
- Pistoia, Italy A Tuscan town offering art and culture to rival Florence, but without the crowds and sky-high prices that you will find in Florence. Pistoia is easy to navigate on foot and makes an ideal little city break.
- Seoul, South Korea The South Korean capital has been changing a lot over the past few years. New developments have given it more green spaces. Seoul is a huge city full of many contrasts. Popular amongst many tourists, it is increasingly seen as a great stopover destination.
- Lisbon, Portugal Lisbon is still an economical destination when compared to other capital cities in Western Europe. Lisbon enjoys a mild year-round climate and offers many cultural gems. Foodies will not be disappointed by Lisbon either.
- Moscow, Russia A city full of archaeological delights. Moscow plays host to the FIFA world cup in 2018, so there are a lot of plans afoot to prepare the city for the glare of the spotlight. Now is a good and exciting time to visit Moscow.
- Portland, Oregon, USA Portland is a very laid-back US city. Famous for its coffee shops and for its Microbreweries and food trucks, it contains ample green spaces and has a very laid-back vibe.
